Eric de Maré : Photography Series

De Maré found beauty where it was least expected, in canal locks, viaducts, worn steps and boat sheds. These were utility structures with efficient design that appealed to many modern architects. His monochrome prints reveal textures that makes you want to reach out and grab the subjects of his images.

One of the most dynamic parts of the image to me, whether paintings or photographs, is the frame. Photographs, like paintings, have a frame. They have an extremity and they have a boundary.

Sven Fennema : ‘Paris … the modern way’ (Photography)

This is a set from my few days trip to Paris in spring 2011. My focus here was just on the modern side of the city, besides one, all of the pictures are taken in the hypermodern quarter “La Défense” which was very amazing for me.

Gianni Galassi : Photography Series

Gianni Galassi’s images are focused around the relationship between light and shadow on the surfaces of urban and industrial buildings. Which leads to a set of architectural visions geometrically combined within the frame, emphasizing a whole of elements which transcend the original function of the portrayed artifact, and giving rise to unintentional aesthetic values. The square format sets a distance from the typical rectangular or panoramic frame of movies and TV. A symbol of geometrical purity, the square suggests a formal reading of the image, which is freed from any narrative intention.

It is known that Le Corbusier was interested in the metamorphic process unique to photography” the inverting of black and white from negative to print. It offered the analogy of the conciliation of opposites, a theme underlying much of his work. Hervé’s images are singed with the blackness of shadows set against expanses of white.

James Casebere : Constructed Photography

James Casebere’s pioneering work has established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. For the last thirty years he has consistently devised increasingly complex models and photographed them in his studio. Based solidly on an understanding of architecture as well as art historical and cinematic sources, Casebere’s abandoned spaces are hauntingly evocative.

This particular sequence is constructed from numerous different series of ‘FotoWorks’ by Fernando. Therefore, I would encourage anyone who is intrigued by these marvelous works to click on each individual image to view texts & tags. This will resignify the speech of each image and each series, allowing for a better understanding of context and a further appreciation of the artists original intent.

Paul Klee said “a line is a dot that went for a walk”. And one day – while out walking in Valencia, Berlin and Zurich – the line came across shadow, sky and negative space. These photographs explore the relationship between the four and were inspired directly by the work and friendship of: Gianni Galassi.

Personally, I think that contemporary architecture has given rise to a new vision of dialogues in urbanism, a sort of “RE – interpretation” of its artistic rhythm of progress – whether it be deconstructionist, brutalist, fantastic or expressionist or clearly visionary or even flowing and introverted.

Sylvain Lagarde : ‘The dancer upstairs is in my head’ Series

Black and white photography is for me a monochrome expression which is able to go to the spirit of everything because it eliminates the “superficiality” of colors. It doesn’t mean that color does not have its place. Color imposes another vision. But black and white is the way i use to reach essence,

Brancolina : ‘Jewish Museum in Berlin’ (Photography)

Nothing is unimportant. There is no place without history, where you can just do what you want. Every place speaks in a unique way. It needs to communicate a certain way and to appeal to people. Architecture is an art of communication – not with words, but with proportions and with an aura. Every building must tell a story. – Daniel Libeskind

I love Black and White photography because with the removal of color the essence of objects, situations, scenery and people become more visible.
