Gianni Galassi’s images are focused around the relationship between light and shadow on the surfaces of urban and industrial buildings. Which leads to a set of architectural visions geometrically combined within the frame, emphasizing a whole of elements which transcend the original function of the portrayed artifact, and giving rise to unintentional aesthetic values. The square format sets a distance from the typical rectangular or panoramic frame of movies and TV. A symbol of geometrical purity, the square suggests a formal reading of the image, which is freed from any narrative intention.

It is known that Le Corbusier was interested in the metamorphic process unique to photography” the inverting of black and white from negative to print. It offered the analogy of the conciliation of opposites, a theme underlying much of his work. Hervé’s images are singed with the blackness of shadows set against expanses of white.

Idris Khan : “Bernd and Hilla Becher” Works (Photography)
Since 1959 Bernd and Hilla Becher have been photographing industrial structures that exemplify modernist engineering, such as gas reservoirs and water towers. These works are often presented in groups of similar design; their repeated images make these everyday buildings seem strangely imposing and alien. Idris Khan’s Every… Bernd And Hilla Becher… series appropriates the Bechers’ imagery and compiles their collections into single super-images.
